The Challenge
When the owners of Summerset Group retirement villages were setting up their first villages, they wanted to purchase electricity from their provider through a single gateway and run a client electricity network so they could sub-meter their units and provide invoices to their residents internally.
Utility Technology was asked to design a system that allowed Summerset to not only run a client network, but also control their electricity demand. This allowed the village to switch off hot water and underfloor heating (storage loads) for short periods so the residents had access to lower cost energy because the village had lower kVA demand charges.
